Historic Buildings on the Pike
Arlington County’s Historic Resources Inventory lists 6 buildings on the Pike in the “Essential” category. With the exception of the Barcroft Appartments all listed historic properties are located in the Town-Center area of the Pike:
- Arlington Theater (Cinema N’ Drafthouse) [map]
- Arlington Village [map]
- Arlington Village Shopping Center [map]
- Fillmore Gardens Appartments [map]
- Barcroft Appartments [map]
A total of 398 properties have been surveyed and catalogued in accordance with the Historic Preservation Master Plan for Arlington. Out of these 23 buildings are ranked “Essential”. According to the relevant Arlington County website: “The Essential buildings give Arlington a genuine sense of place and illustrate how our built environment evolved during the early- to mid-20th century. In addition, the Essential buildings have the most remaining architectural fabric, the least extensive physical alterations, and distinguishing architectural and/or historical significance.”
The official release of the list of the 23 “essential” properties is the begin of a public process on the implementation of the Historic Resources Inventory in Arlington.
